Ahilya is woven in a yellow beige silk fabric. Her cream colored pallu is composed of twisting yarns, showing off a fine gradient along its length. Her blouse is a silk fabric in yellow ochre, bringing out the simplicity and grace of her pastel colors. A silver zari border — Aconi’s rendition of the customary gold one — runs along the length of the saree, perfecting her timeless charm.

Ahilya has been conceptualized by our team of designers and crafted with careful expertise by traditional weavers in the town of Maheshwar. An elusive twist on Maheshwari sarees, the complexity of the weaving techniques used is amplified through minute attention to details.

The threads in Ahilya’s pallu have been twisted while weaving the fabric, creating a gorgeous gradient effect in tints of cream.

Contrary to popular belief about handloom sarees, this one does not require any elaborate maintenance.

This saree is named after Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the Queen of the Maratha Malwa kingdom. She brought the art of weaving into her capital city of Maheshwar, in Madhya Pradesh, which led to the now-famous Maheshwari weaves. In visual renditions of Devi Ahilya, her aesthetic is depicted as muted and soft, in colors of beige and cream. This is embodied in the saree Ahilya.
