Mrinalika is made of a heavenly cotton fabric in a sandy brown. Her minimalism is broken by bursts of color, with stripes in hues of blues and oranges on her cotton pallu. It wraps around a soft, muesli brown blouse with orange tones. A silver zari border — Aconi’s rendition of the customary gold one — runs along the length of the saree, perfecting her timeless charm.

Mrinalika has been conceptualized by our team of designers and crafted with careful expertise by senior weavers in the town of Maheshwar. An elusive twist on traditional Maheshwari sarees, the complexity of the weaving techniques used is amplified through minute attention to details.

Contrary to popular belief about handloom sarees, this one does not require any elaborate maintenance.

This saree is named after Princess Mrinalika from the royal family of Mayurbhanj, in Orissa. She marks a new-generation of royalty. The bursts of color on this saree’s pallu represent her modernity and enterprising ways. Princess Mrinalika returned to her hometown and, along with her sister, transformed her ancestral home — The Belgadia Palace — to put it on the global tourism map.
